Are you measuring your worth by the money you make, the importance of what you do or the applause from other people?
We all depend on a certain level of income to provide housing and basic needs. Having a sense of contribution can enhance our self-respect. Having positive feedback from others can be extremely valuable as it reinforces a sense of belonging and our place among people. The difficulty arises at the extremes.
Emotional and spiritual health come when we realize we matter no matter what we’re doing. We realize every breath and each heartbeat is present in the work that we do. Nothing is too small or too great. We discover we are valuable—not because of money, perceived level of importance of our job, or popular support—we are most valuable when we allow ourselves to bloom as our most authentic self. Don’t try to be a rose if you are a tulip or a dandelion or an apple blossom. Bloom your innermost truth.
Inspiration for the Day: “When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.” –Lao Tzu
