Comparing yourself to others is akin to death. It disconnects from self and the essential inner-guidance system that leads to purpose, meaning and living one’s truth. Comparing provides a distorted view of reality and reinforces an externally-driven life. When external motivations become the dominant driver of live, the essential inner-guidance recedes into the background.
Comparing yourself to others also sets you up for perpetual disappointment and self-loathing as you succumb to the greatest lie of all, “You’re not good enough.” Externally-motivated people attempt to cover up the lie with desperate attempts to make their life look good to the outside world while they silently suffer on the inside.
Looking at others and pictures of people’s lives on social media and feeling immediately depressed or discouraged is a red flag that the dangers of comparing and external motivation are taking over.
Inspiration for the Day: “Stay in your lane. Comparison kills creativity and joy.” –Brene Brown
