Everything we do has a purpose.
Whether it’s something as simple as brushing one’s teeth for dental hygiene to fulfilling a higher mission like saving lives, teaching others, helping the environment and/or achieving a dream. Some purposes appear somewhat benign while others have the power to enhance one’s sense of fulfillment, meaning and self-respect. Still others can incur harm, shame and illness.
A helpful test when taking any action (simple or complex) is to consider what purpose the act is fulfilling and consciously choosing to engage in more actions that lead to fulfillment and increase your self-respect.
Inspiration for the Day: “Everywhere and at all times it is in your power piously to acquiesce in your present condition, and to behave justly to those around you, and to exert your skill upon your present thoughts, that nothing shall steal into them without being well examined.” –Marcus Aurelius
