Finding our purpose is often a balance between responding to life’s responsibilities and taking care of our internal needs.
Living a life that sacrifices oneself to take care of everyone else can backfire. What may not be recognized by the conscious mind is that the sacrifices are often veiled attempts to receive love, attention, security, and to feel worthy.
Worse, they can be a rich breeding ground for deep-seated resentments that can come out in unexpected ways—moodiness, controlling behavior, guilt-tripping, eating disorders, addictions, depression, and a profound sense of disconnectedness from one’s self.
Taking time to examine the source of our desires can illuminate any ulterior motives and serve to access clearer intentions and a more fulfilling purpose.
Inspiration for the Day: “What we achieve inwardly will change outward reality.” –Plutarch
