Purpose means being part of something larger that is connected to others. While one cannot be fully authentic if they escape their inner truth, they must also be wary of becoming too self-absorbed.
Self-absorption, or naval-gazing, means one is so caught up with their own feelings and experiences that they can’t make time to comprehend what is happening for others. Moreover, they falsely assume that their experience is identical to another person’s—and that is rarely ever true. Two people have different feelings and experiences to the same stimulus in the same moment.
A paradox is that knowing oneself wholly—and the depth of one’s own feelings—is what allows a person to become more fully present, available, open, and curious about other people’s perspectives. When that happens, one’s purpose is able to to be more powerful as it enables a purposeful flow from one soul to another. Purpose needs more than one person. It is a gift from one being to others.
Inspiration for the Day: “We don’t accomplish anything in the world alone and whatever happens is the result of the whole tapestry of one’s life and all the weavings of individual threads from one to another that create something.” –Sandra Day O’Connor
