Remember the expression, “Stop and smell the roses”? There is a lot of wisdom and science to this—and helps to better enable the free flow of love.
The essential two biological components that come into play when deeply inhaling the pleasant fragrance of a rose is that we tend to relax our muscles and take a longer inhale and exhale.
When we are in any stressed state (think stuck in traffic, meeting deadlines, listening to the news, arguing with a loved one) we tend to engage in shallow breathing, which limits the oxygen to our brain and organs and leads to further stress.
In addition, clenched muscles (a practical default for everyone...go ahead and notice if the muscles in your face are tight right now? Is your jaw clenched? Are your shoulders a bit high and tense? If so, pause and deeply breathe into your muscles and imagine all your muscles relaxing like melting butter dripping off your skeletal frame). When we fully relax our muscles, we open neural pathways to our higher brain functioning and can think and process more clearly—which gets us out of triggered states that impede love.
If the rose can represent love, then remember the lesson of inhaling love throughout the day, every day.
Inspiration for the Day: “The world is a rose, smell it and pass it on to your friends.” -Persian Proverb
