The active work of love involves seeking to understand the other. There are multiple ways of seeing a situation and oftentimes our own self-protective defenses can cloud our view of the other’s experience. One simple word or look can be fodder for a misunderstanding. To love means to seek ways to clear such misunderstandings.
A challenge for overcoming misunderstandings is knowing when to pursue a conversation to clear the confusion and when to wait to allow ruffled feathers to smooth.
Some things can simply be dropped for they aren’t that important in the big scheme of life. Yet a continual effort to thwart communication and understanding can cripple the flow of love.
